We are pleased to announce that Trad AI has successfully implemented support for the OpenAI 5.2 model across our translation infrastructure. This update marks an important technical milestone for our platform and directly reflects our core philosophy: using advanced language models in a way that is optimised for professional translation rather than for general-purpose text generation.
What is new in model 5.2
With the release of model 5.2, OpenAI introduced a significant architectural innovation: the ability to explicitly disable the model’s internal reasoning component by setting the parameter
reasoning = { "effort": "none" }
This allows the model to operate without engaging its chain-of-thought style reasoning process, focusing instead on direct linguistic transformation. Trad AI has fully integrated this capability and applies it by default to translation workflows.
Why disabling reasoning matters for translation
While reasoning-heavy modes are valuable for tasks such as problem solving, analysis, or complex decision-making, they are not always beneficial for professional translation. In fact, for translation tasks they can introduce several unwanted effects:
- increased verbosity or explanatory reformulations,
