Licensing Policy

This Licensing Policy explains ownership of source content and generated translations, permitted commercial use, third-party AI model terms, token-based access and user responsibilities.

Effective date: 1 May 2026

Key points

  • Users retain rights in their source content.
  • Subject to applicable law and provider terms, users own translations generated for them.
  • Trad AI does not use Customer Content to train its own general AI models.
  • Third-party AI providers may process content under their applicable terms and configurations.
  • Token allowances are technical usage allowances, not word-count guarantees.

This Licensing Policy explains how ownership, licensing, permitted use, third-party AI model terms, token-based access and user responsibilities apply when using Trad AI, including our website, AI-assisted translation platform, translation memory generation, file processing features, subscription plans, account features and related services (together, the "Service").

This Licensing Policy should be read together with our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer and Cookie Policy. If there is a conflict between this Licensing Policy and the Terms of Use, the Terms of Use will prevail to the extent of that conflict.

1. Purpose of this Policy

Trad AI is an AI-assisted translation platform designed to support translation, post-editing workflows, wide-context translation, terminology consistency and translation memory generation.

This Policy explains:

  • who owns source content submitted to the Service;
  • who owns generated translations and related output;
  • how users may use generated translations commercially;
  • how third-party AI model terms may apply;
  • how token-based access works;
  • what responsibilities users have when submitting source material;
  • why human review remains necessary.

3. Customer Content

"Customer Content" means text, files, documents, source materials, instructions, prompts, glossaries, terminology lists, translation memories and other content that you submit to the Service for translation or related processing.

You retain all rights in your Customer Content.

By submitting Customer Content to the Service, you grant Trad AI a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to access, process, transmit, temporarily store and otherwise use Customer Content solely as necessary to provide the Service, maintain security, prevent abuse, resolve support requests, comply with applicable law and enforce applicable terms.

Trad AI does not claim ownership of your Customer Content, does not sell Customer Content, does not use Customer Content for advertising or marketing, and does not use Customer Content to train its own general AI models.

4. Generated Output

"Generated Output" means translations, translated files, translation memories, terminology outputs or other results generated for you through the Service.

Subject to applicable law and third-party provider terms, you own the Generated Output produced for you through the Service.

Trad AI does not claim ownership of Generated Output created for you through your use of the Service. You may use Generated Output in accordance with these Terms, applicable law and any third-party rights that may apply to the source material.

AI-generated output may not be unique. Similar or identical output may be generated for other users where similar source text, prompts, terminology or instructions are provided.

5. Permitted commercial use

Subject to these Terms, applicable law and third-party rights, you may use Generated Output for commercial purposes.

This may include publishing translations, using translations in business documents, providing machine translation post-editing services, incorporating translated content into client deliverables, creating translation memories for your own workflow, and using translated output in localisation, legal, commercial, technical or internal business workflows.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of Generated Output is lawful and does not infringe third-party rights.

6. Third-party AI models and APIs

The Service may use third-party AI models and APIs, including OpenAI models where applicable.

Depending on your plan and configuration, AI processing may be provided through Trad AI-managed infrastructure, a user-provided API key, a dedicated or enterprise deployment agreed separately, or another configuration made available by Trad AI.

Third-party AI model providers may have their own terms, usage policies, data processing terms, retention settings, rate limits, model restrictions and acceptable-use requirements.

7. OpenAI and other provider terms

Where OpenAI models or APIs are used, processing may be subject to OpenAI's applicable business, API, service, usage, data processing and acceptable-use terms.

Where other AI model providers are used, processing may be subject to the applicable terms and policies of those providers.

Provider terms may change over time, and Trad AI may update supported providers, models, configurations or workflows to reflect provider changes, security requirements, legal requirements or service improvements.

8. Data handling and no model training by Trad AI

Trad AI does not use Customer Content to train its own general AI models, does not sell Customer Content, and does not use Customer Content for advertising or marketing.

Trad AI does not permanently store Customer Content after completion of the translation task unless storage is needed for a feature requested by you, temporary technical processing, support, security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or where you explicitly enable or request storage.

Where third-party AI providers process Customer Content, such processing is governed by the applicable provider terms, data processing arrangements and configuration used for the relevant plan. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.

9. Token-based access and usage

Paid plans may include monthly token allowances. Additional usage may be available on a pay-as-you-go basis, depending on your plan and account settings.

A token is a technical unit used by AI systems to process text, instructions, files and generated output. Token counts are not equivalent to word counts, character counts, page counts or file size.

Token allowances are technical usage allowances and billing limits. They do not guarantee that a specific number of words, pages, files or documents can be translated.

Actual token consumption may vary depending on language pair, document type, formatting, text complexity, instructions, model configuration, context size and processing workflow. See Pricing for plan details.

10. Source material and user rights

You are responsible for ensuring that you have all necessary rights, licences, permissions, consents and lawful bases to submit Customer Content to the Service and to create, use, edit, publish, distribute, sell, sublicense or otherwise exploit Generated Output.

You must not submit source material that infringes rights, breaches confidentiality obligations, violates privacy or data protection rights, contains unlawful content, violates contractual restrictions, or breaches applicable export control, sanctions, professional secrecy or sector-specific rules.

11. Restrictions and acceptable use

You must use the Service and Generated Output lawfully and responsibly. You must not use the Service for illegal, harmful, deceptive, abusive or fraudulent purposes, to bypass limits or controls, to violate third-party rights, or in breach of applicable provider usage policies.

We may suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe that use of the Service violates these requirements.

12. Human review and professional responsibility

Generated Output is AI-assisted machine translation output and may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, inconsistent, culturally inappropriate or unsuitable for a particular purpose.

You are responsible for reviewing, verifying, editing and approving Generated Output before relying on it or providing it to third parties. Human review is especially important before professional, legal, medical, financial, certified, sworn, official or other high-impact use.

13. Enterprise and custom deployments

Enterprise or custom deployments may include additional terms covering dedicated infrastructure, single sign-on, data residency options, custom retention settings, custom subprocessors, service-level commitments, security reviews, audit support, organisation-specific workflows, user-provided API keys and dedicated model configurations.

Where separate written terms apply to an enterprise or custom deployment, those written terms will prevail over this Licensing Policy to the extent of any conflict.

14. Changes to models, providers and terms

AI models, provider terms, pricing, data handling practices, retention settings, rate limits, usage limits, safety requirements and technical capabilities may change over time.

Trad AI may update supported models, providers, workflows, token accounting methods, configurations, provider integrations, plan features and safeguards to maintain service quality, security, legal compliance, commercial viability or compatibility with provider requirements. Where a change materially affects paid users, we will provide notice where reasonably practicable or where required by law.
